Is Couples Therapy Right for Us?

Couples therapy is for partners who deeply care about their relationship but feel stuck in negative patterns, even if there hasn’t been a major betrayal or crisis. You may be experiencing frequent arguments, emotional disconnection, or unresolved resentment that makes it difficult to navigate life transitions together. Many couples feel stuck in cycles of defensiveness or withdrawal; therapy offers a structured way to interrupt these patterns and rebuild your friendship.

How We Help Your Relationship Thrive

At ROH Counseling, couples therapy is grounded in the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach backed by decades of research on what helps relationships thrive.

  • A Collaborative Approach: Rather than focusing on blame, we work to understand your relationship dynamics and strengthen your foundation of trust and safety.
  • What a Session Looks Like: Sessions provide a safe, guided space to slow down conversations that often feel overwhelming or unproductive at home.
  • Practical Tools: You will practice skills for expressing needs, managing conflict, and repairing after disagreements while building deeper emotional understanding.
  • Specialized Expertise: As a Gottman-trained therapist, I help couples move out of stuck patterns and into more intentional, connected ways of relating.

The Outcomes of Choosing Connection

Couples who engage in therapy with us often report:

  • Improved Communication: Learning to understand each other's perspectives without immediate defensiveness.
  • Healthier Conflict Management: Having the tools to navigate disagreements without damaging the relationship.
  • Increased Trust: Feeling a stronger emotional connection and a sense of shared goals.
  • Renewed Partnership: Feeling like a team again, ready to face life’s stressors together.

Our Virtual Dallas Office:

How long does couples therapy take?

The length varies based on your challenges and willingness to work; some benefit from short-term focus, while others choose ongoing support.

What if we’ve never done therapy before?

That’s completely okay. We provide a structured environment to ensure both partners feel supported and comfortable from the very start.

Will the therapist take sides?

No. The focus of couples therapy is on understanding patterns and strengthening the relationship—not assigning blame or choosing sides.

Is therapy only for relationships in crisis?

Not at all. Many couples seek therapy proactively to improve communication or strengthen their connection before issues escalate.

How do I know if we’re a good fit before I commit to a full session?

We offer a free, low-pressure 15-minute consultation specifically so you can share what’s been weighing on you and ask any questions about my approach. It’s a "no-strings-attached" space to see if you feel comfortable and heard before we ever move forward with a formal intake.
