Is EMDR Therapy Right for You?

EMDR therapy is designed for individuals who feel stuck in emotional patterns connected to past experiences, even if those experiences don’t feel “big enough” to be considered traditional trauma. You may notice intrusive memories, intense emotional reactions, or body-based responses that feel hard to control. These are often signs of your nervous system trying to protect you. EMDR helps address these triggers, as well as anxiety, perfectionism, and negative core beliefs, by helping your brain reprocess memories into more positive, adaptive beliefs.

Our Gentle, Trauma-Informed Approach

At ROH Counseling, we offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through a compassionate and client-centered lens. We specialize in helping young women navigate trauma responses and perfectionism rooted in the past.

  • A Safe Partnership: I integrate EMDR with grounding skills, mindfulness, and talk therapy to ensure you feel safe, supported, and in control throughout the entire process.
  • Your Expertise Honored: We approach this work with deep respect for your nervous system and your lived experience.
  • What a Session Looks Like: Sessions are structured and paced to your comfort. We begin by building safety and coping skills before using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) to help your brain naturally reprocess distressing memories. You do not have to share every detail of your trauma to find relief.

Real Results for Your Healing

Clients who engage in EMDR therapy with Ray of Hope Counseling often report:

  • Emotional Freedom: Reduced intensity tied to past experiences and fewer intrusive thoughts.
  • Internal Calm: Feeling more grounded in their body and less reactive in daily life or relationships.
  • Stronger Self-Worth: Improved self-trust and a sense of closure or relief regarding past events.

Our Virtual Dallas Office:

How long does EMDR therapy take?

The length varies based on your history and goals; some see change in a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work.

What if I’ve never done therapy before?

That is completely okay. We focus on building safety, trust, and coping skills before any memory processing ever begins.

Is EMDR safe?

Yes, it is an evidence-based therapy used worldwide for trauma and anxiety. All sessions are guided and paced to your comfort level.

Do I have to talk in detail about my trauma?

No. EMDR focuses on how the memory is stored in your brain and body, not on retelling the entire story.

Will my insurance cover it?

We accept several major plans including Aetna, BCBS of Texas, and United Healthcare. If we are out-of-network, we can provide a monthly superbill.
