Who Is Trauma Therapy For?

Trauma therapy is for individuals who feel emotionally reactive, overwhelmed, or "stuck" due to past experiences—even if those events don't feel "big enough" to be considered traditional trauma. You may notice that old patterns or beliefs continue to surface in your relationships, self-worth, or anxiety therapy sessions. If something from your past still feels "active" in your body or emotions, this specialized work can help you find relief.

A Gentle, Trauma-Informed Approach

At ROH Counseling, we believe healing should never feel forced. We utilize EMDR therapy alongside mindfulness and nervous system regulation to help you process experiences without having to relive the pain of retelling every detail.

  • Our Unique Method: We combine EMDR with trauma-informed talk therapy to help your brain and body process experiences in a safe, manageable way.
  • What to Expect: Every journey begins with building a foundation of safety and trust. We focus on grounding skills and understanding your triggers before we ever address difficult memories.
  • Practice Expertise: We specialize in helping young women navigate trauma that stems from chronic stress, emotional neglect, or invalidating environments.
  • Collaborative Care: We move at your pace, checking in often to ensure you feel supported and in control throughout the entire process.

The Outcomes of Healing

Clients who engage in trauma therapy often report:

  • Emotional Resilience: Reduced reactivity and a decrease in feeling constantly overwhelmed.
  • Body Peace: Feeling calmer and more grounded in their physical self.
  • Improved Daily Life: Better sleep, healthier relationship boundaries, and increased self-trust.

Insurances Accepted for Trauma Therapy

We accept a wide range of insurance plans to make specialized trauma care accessible for young women across Texas. Our current in-network providers include Aetna, Ascension, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Oscar, Oxford, and United Healthcare. If we are not in-network with your specific plan, we can provide a monthly superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

Session Rates

For clients who choose not to use insurance, our private pay session rate is $150 per 45–50 minute session. Payment is collected at the time of your appointment to ensure a seamless experience. Under the No Surprises Act, you also have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the total expected cost of your care before you begin.

How long does it take for trauma therapy to work?

The length of your treatment depends on your personal goals and readiness for change. While many people begin to notice a reduction in emotional reactivity within a few months, others benefit from longer-term support to maintain a sense of safety and self-trust.

Do I have to talk in detail about my past trauma to heal?

No, you do not need to share every detail of your experience to find relief. Trauma therapy at Ray of Hope Counseling focuses on how your past is stored in your body and nervous system today, rather than forcing you to relive painful memories through storytelling.

Is trauma therapy effective if I have never been to counseling before?

Yes, it is completely okay to start trauma therapy as your first experience with counseling. We focus on building a strong foundation of trust and teaching you grounding skills before ever addressing overwhelming memories.

How do I know if my experience is "severe" enough for trauma therapy?

If a past experience continues to impact your anxiety, self-worth, or relationships today, it is "big enough" for therapy. Trauma can stem from chronic stress or emotional neglect as much as from a single event; if it matters to you, it is valid work for us to do together.

Is virtual EMDR therapy safe and collaborative?

Yes, we provide virtual EMDR that is always collaborative and paced to your comfort level. You are never pushed to move faster than you are ready for, and every session is guided by your need for safety and control.
